Stand-Up Boogie
Neo Paipo
When I was gathering thoughts and ideas to build this board I got sooo excited as this was my jam thinking back to when we were little frothing groms. For just 50 cents we could jump on the city bus, take a few transfer slips, and go from west all the way to the east side, all the way to Sandy's or Makapu'u with our body boards. They didn't allow surfboards on the bus so this was the best way to just work on our drop knee styles or full stance all day. One of the best that I've ever seen was Chris Won Taloa aka (WonTon) he would throw way bigger sprays than most surfers and would speed down the line at the speed of Paipo boards. Wayyy harder than you think I must say. However, there is one challenge in building this and that is there isn't the same kind of torsional flex as an actual body board so lots of bottom contours and rail manipulation had to take place in this shape. Plus adding fins will give it a tad more control. However, when the dust settled and the "Neo Paipo" was first tested out at Waikiki 3's, Kahala shown here ripped the bag out of it. I'm stoked to say that in some hidden nooks, the old-school art of Stand-Up Bogie is alive and well. Thankful for the young gens keepin it real.
